Priapus shots are an injectable ED solution that uses a person’s own blood injected straight into their penile tissue. Its supporters claim that there’s nothing more effective to regain the ability to achieve and keep firmer, harder erections – but does the science support its hype as a miracle cure for ED?
What is the “P-shot”?
The Priapus Shot (aka the “P-Shot”) was developed by Cellular Medicine Association founder Dr. Charles Runels. The medicine takes its name after the Greek god of fertility associated with the male genitals – Priapus. The latter was depicted in art as a deity with a massive erection.
Now, while the P-shot might not turn you into a Greek godlike figure with an insanely large endowment, it might help boost your sexual health and give you better, harder erections. The premise behind the P-shot is that certain substances that occur in your blood can heal the body’s tissues, including that of your penis.
Too good to be true, right? Not so. See, doctors have long been using blood from their patients to help recover from injuries since the 1980s. Such practices have been employed in fields like dermatology and plastic surgery, among others.
The question is: can the P-shot boost blood flow to the penis to help increase your size, help you last longer, and increase sexual pleasure?

How does the P-shot work?
Let’s start with how erections work to understand this question.
Erections happen due to enhanced blood flow to the penis, engorging the corpus cavernosum’s spongy tissues with blood, leading to hard-on. ED treatments developed to boost blood flow to the penis promote healthy erectile function.
The P-shot is marketed as a treatment that not only enhances blood circulation to the penis but also actually helps create new blood vessels in it from a person’s blood.
The P-shot is injected straight into penile tissue using components of your blood: particularly plasma. The latter is rich in blood-clotting proteins, infection-fighting antibodies, and growth factors that promote tissue healing and growth.
The Priapus shot is produced by separating from the rest of the blood and enhancing it with platelets, which help the blood clot. This concoction of platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the penile shaft after a local anesthetic is applied to it.
According to Dr. Charles Runels himself, the P-shot doesn’t take long for it to work once the shot is administered, and patients could experience its benefits on the same day the Priapus shot is applied.
What are the benefits of the P-shot?
Now that we know how the P-shot works, how does this platelet-rich plasma-laden injectable actually benefit you? Here are some of its potential benefits and the science behind them.
Erectile dysfunction
ED is largely caused by impeded blood flow into the penis. Therefore, circulatory health conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol levels, smoking, or alcohol consumption can cause damage to blood vessels and lead to plaque formation and scarring within penile tissue, hindering the supply of blood to the penis.
Our blood is continuously working behind the scenes to replenish and heal the daily wear and tear that we put our bodies through, constantly fixing nicks and niggling injuries we aren’t even aware exist.
The question is: does the P-shot effectively channel these healing properties to boost erectile function in penile tissue?
According to a study, erectile function and sexual contentment substantially increased after platelet-rich plasma up to six months after the first treatment. Moreover, a recent study in 2021 demonstrated the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma therapy in improving erectile health overtaking a placebo.
However, it must be noted that these studies were conducted in small sample sizes; therefore, it will take more research before the P-shot can be conclusively recommended as an ED treatment.
Peyronie’s disease
Peyronie’s disease is a condition wherein the penis unnaturally suffers a curvature due to the development of scar tissue caused by serious physical trauma to the penis – sex included. Peyronie’s disease causes a painful, unnatural bend to the penis that can cause erection difficulties.
In a small 2021 study, Peyronie’s disease patients were given platelet-rich plasma shots with hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the body. This led to improved sexual function in men with the disease, demonstrating recovery from the curving and scarring in the penis. However, as with the findings from platelet-rich plasma therapy with ED, these studies are yet to be conducted with greater sample size and more research to determine its benefits.

Does the P-shot have any side effects?
The good thing about the Priapus shot is that it uses your own blood rather than pharmaceuticals. Therefore, the chance of developing side effects is low, apart from mild bruising or soreness associated with receiving injections, as demonstrated in studies in patients receiving the shot.
What are the disadvantages of getting the P-shot?
The Priapus Shot might sound like a godsend as an effective treatment with little chance of developing serious side effects while boosting your overall sexual health.
But it’s not without its disadvantages, particularly its cost. For instance, they are significantly more expensive than prescription ED drugs, costing up to $3000 a pop. P-shots are also subject to limited availability.
Granted, the P-shot offers new ways for men with erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s disease to treat their conditions – but the fact is, more research is needed to definitively prove its efficacy.
